Organic Basil (ocimum basilicum) Essential Oil
Also known as sweet basil or French basil.
Basil essential oil is strongly anti-bacterial & acts by puncturing the cell wall of the bacterium which causes the contents to leak out and the bacterium dies.
It has also been shown to have an effect against chemically-induced cancer by increasing the GST (glutathione-S-transferase) which is an important enzyme in fighting cancer.
Basil can stimulate uterine contractions when a pregnancy has reached full term and is a well-known stimulant of the mind and of digestion (hence extensive use in cooking).
It is also a smooth muscle relaxant & may be offered to horses suffering from choke (along with peppermint EO and HA lavender EO) as a first aid measure whilst waiting for the vet.
Altogether an inexpensive and very useful EO to have in your first aid kit.
